ABOUT KANGERLUK 

 

Kangerluk is located at 69°N, 53° W, on the western edge of Disko Island, Greenland.

 

This places Kangerluk in the Western Greenland in Qeqertalik municipality.  It takes approx 1,5h to get there from Qeqertarsuaq by boat in the summer or a dogsled in the wintertime. Only ten years ago, the settlement’s population peaked at around 30 families but has slowly declined since then. Now inhabited by just a few, it is the smallest settlement in Greenland. Yet, the Greenlandic way of life is far from forgotten—many Greenlanders still visit Kangerluk to enjoy its beauty, peace, and the chance to disconnect from everyday life. 

 

No matter where you stand in the settlement, the mountains stretch endlessly from west to east, while the vast, open waters of Baffin Bay lie to the south. They are endless possibiltiies for hikes arond, including getting on top of the mountains, to enjoy rocky or sandy beach, cliffs fulls of birds, of following the footprints of the orugin of Kanger;luk that was rufinally located inside the fjord. 

 

Kangerluk fjord is known for its rich waters and excellent fishing—especially for Arctic char, eqaluk in Greenlandic. Locals often say with a smile that if you're lucky, you can catch one with your bare hands if the timing's right.  If not, it's a good excuse to hire a local guides who knows the waters well.

 

 

TRANSPORT - HOW TO GET THERE

 

Although it might seem isolated, there is always a way to get to Kangerluk. In the summer, Disko Line offers a small ferry connection from Ilulissat and Qeqertarsuaq to Kangerluk approximately every two weeks between June and September. Additionally, two local tour operators provide transport between Qeqertarsuaq and Kangerluk.

In winter, you can reach Kangerluk by dogsled, skis, or snowmobile—transport options available upon request through local tour operators. Those operators are our local friends, and together we work to ensure you have the best possible experience getting to and around Kangerluk.
